The Family
Miquel Pons is the brand that our family, after 250 years and several generations passing on the task of caring for the vineyards and making wine, began to bottle and market. From the old farmhouse of Cal Montargull, the name of the house, now in the town of La Granada del Penedès, where the winery is located, always in the Penedès and Cava denomination of origin area.

The farm has 60 hectares of vines, of which 40 are owned and the rest leased. They extend from the south of Arboç to the northern end of Subirats; which allows us to cultivate the various grape varieties in different geographical characteristics. The lands of the Penedès have always been characterized as one of the best productive areas for the cultivation of vines due to its winds, richness in nutrients and its privileged rainfall, which allows the obtaining of grapes of exceptional quality.

The cavas and wines we sell are distinguished by the Montargull brands, for varietal grapes, Miquel Pons, for the more traditional range, Eulàlia de Pons for the most sophisticated palates, and Arrelium for the younger wines. Unius is our brand of extra virgin olive oil Arbequina, closing the most representative circle of millennial products made on the Mediterranean coast, and which thus make up our product menu.

The Wine Maker

Joan Miquel Canals and Bosch
Degree and doctorate in chemistry from the University of Barcelona and the Rovira i Virgili University respectively. Professor at the faculty of oenology in Tarragona. Member of several DO tasting evaluation committees. Specialist in tastings and study of cork in corks, as well as in the production of sparkling wines.
The personal commitment to work from the ground up in wine selection and research to achieve varietal wines or well-structured blends of the highest quality, has contributed to the Miquel Pons cellars a very balanced philosophy with a maximum commitment to maintain the more natural features in our products.

The passion to create new wines and cavas with their own personality and the desire to maintain tradition in our house, are the present and the future in the evolution of our range.

Pere Pons Mercadé
Graduated in Biotechnology from the University of Barcelona and PhD in Oenology and Biotechnology from the Rovira i Virgili University. During the completion of the Master’s Degree in Fermented Beverages, he spent a year at the University of Bordeaux, ISVV (“Institut des Sciences de la Vigne et du Vin”). Specialist in ageing, evolution and aging on the lees of the Caves, the subject on which his Doctoral thesis was based.

Third generation of the family and in love with the Penedès and its varieties, looking to make original and unique wines with indigenous varieties that express the terroir.

Our estates
Currently, the Pons family manages 60 hectares of vineyards between the Terme de Subirats further north to the Rovellar estate located in the town of Sant Marçal in the Alt Penedès region, which allows the cavas to grow delicately and effort their vines, and express the different geographical characteristics of the Penedès their grape varieties.

The farms of the Pons family are located in the municipal terms of the following towns, in Alt Penedès: La Granada del Penedès, Vilafranca del Penedès, Santa Fe del Penedès, Lavern (Subirats), Avinyonet del Penedès. In Baix Penedès: Sant Marçal.
The land on our farms is generally calcareous-clay, with an abundant presence of lime and with fluctuations in the depth of the land, with a remarkable water retention capacity due to the clay.

Miquel Pons’ Wines and Cavas


Miquel Pons Cavas
Miquel Pons cavas are made from the best selected vintage musts, from the grapes of our estates, using the native varieties Xarel·lo, Macabeu and Parellada as a reference, since they are the signs of identity of our territory .
Our cavas stand out for their long aging in the cavas of at least 18 months up to 44 of our large reserves, for their fine and creamy bubble given by the aging and the quality of the must. At Miquel Pons, we disgorge all our cavas by hand without freezing the neck of the cava bottle in order to preserve the aromatic complexity obtained during the long aging in our cavas.

Miquel Pons wines
At Miquel Pons, lineage of Penedès winemakers, we make our wines from the best grapes from our estates, from which we select the highest quality musts to make our terroir wines.
We work with indigenous varieties with the help of foreign ones in order to seek as a result wines of high expression. Our wines stand out for being very aromatic, fine and highly expressive wines, we avoid residual sugar in order to obtain fresh and healthy wines.
